Winery Info/Brand
Founded in 1879 in Haro, Rioja, by brothers Eusebio and Raimundo Real de Asúa, C.V.N.E. began with a vision to seize the growing opportunity for Rioja wines during the phylloxera crisis in France.
Established in the iconic Barrio de la Estación, the winery has remained in the hands of the founding family for five generations.
Today, with over 145 years of history, C.V.N.E. continues to combine its rich winemaking traditions with innovation and a strong commitment to its environment. Over five generations, the company has expanded beyond Rioja into other key Spanish wine regions and established a presence in more than 110 countries worldwide.
Shortly after the winery was founded, the CUNE brand was born from a simple spelling error, when the “V” in CVNE was mistakenly written as a “U.”
The brand quickly gained recognition in Spain and international markets, with its consistent quality helping establish C.V.N.E. as one of Rioja’s benchmark wineries.
With approximately 600 vineyards, C.V.N.E. is the largest vineyard owner in the historic villages of Rioja and the first Spanish winery to reach No.1 in the Wine Spectator Top 100, with Imperial Gran Reserva 2004.
It is also the first winery in Spain to receive 100 Parker points for both a red and a white wine.
Region Info/Origin
La Rioja is a province in northern Spain with a renowned local wine industry. Below the Cantabrian Mountains, vineyards occupy the Ebro valley and surround the old town of Haro, where the summer festival features a messy "wine battle." The local wineries range from small to traditional cellars and Marques de Riscal in neighboring Euskadi, which has distinct steel architecture by Frank Gehry. The vineyard has freshly grown grape varieties including Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Garnacha, Albariño and the usual prominent Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Some of these grapes are used in the wine blend to create a different yet unique flavoured wine for enjoyment. Pick out the notes full of fruits, underwood and spices.
