Hospices de Beaune, 1er Cru Cuvée, Dames Hospitalières 2002

Shows the graceful maturity of a classic Burgundy vintage. In the glass, it reveals a brick-tinged ruby hue, opening with elegant aromas of dried cherry, red currant, and plum, layered with notes of forest floor, leather, gentle spice, and a touch of earthy mushroom. On the palate, the wine is refined and harmonious, with softened tannins, balanced acidity, and flavors of ripe red fruit, sous-bois, and subtle oak. The finish is smooth and lingering, offering savory complexity and a sense of quiet depth that reflects both its Premier Cru origin and careful aging.

Winery Info/Brand

Hospices de Civiles de Beaune is a former charitable almshouse founded in 1443 in the town of Beaune. It is now a modern hospital, with the original buildings serving as a museum. Since 1859, a charity wine auction has raised funds for the hospital with the wines produced being released under the Hospice's umbrella label. The wines are made at the Hospices winery from around 60 hectares (150 acres) of vineyard holdings which have been donated to the charity over many decades. Much of these are in premier and grand cru vineyard sites including Clos de la Roche, Mazis-Chambertin and Corton.
