Region Info/Origin
Mendoza, in Argentina's Cuyo region, is the capital of Mendoza Province and the heart of Argentina's wine country. Its many bodegas (wineries) are famous for tastings and tours. Mendoza Climate, in general, is moderately cold during winters, with sunny days and lows regularly below freezing temperature. Rainfall is scarce and not enough to support vines, but heavy winter snowfall on the Andes mountains provides snowmelt water for irrigation. The soils of the different winemaking regions originated from the erosion and decomposition of the Andean rocks and minerals in the Quaternary period. Mendoza's vines are famed for Malbecs and other bold reds.
