A city in the Champagne-Ardenne region of France, is situated 129 km (80 miles) east-northeast of Paris. Founded by the Gauls, it became a major city during the period of the Roman Empire. The region is one of the largest producers of wine in the world depending on the vintage. Its landscapes include the départements of Ardennes, Marne, Aube and Haute-Marne. However, the "region" designated for the production of Champagne, also includes parts of the adjoining départements and the old French province of Champagne roughly covered the same areas.
